About Me

hi5 art collective
Truro, Cornwall, United Kingdom
hi5 are five South West based, professional artists with collective experience in fine art, printmaking, animation, set design, illustration and photography, with fine artist Faye Dobinson, printmaker Paul Bawden, illustrator Caroline Pedler, fine artist Lucy Brown and animator / artist Kate Maratty. The aim of the group is to initiate awareness of their work by delivering it to the public within empty shop spaces. Creating energy in a space that would otherwise be dead and uninspiring. Invigilating the space themselves and launching and closing the show with guest artists and musicians, bringing the shops immediate environment alive and using that energy to ignite and inspire others and therefore hopefully creating more than just an exhibition space.

“All of us come from varied backgrounds and create a range of styles of work, using various media and have different aspirations for our work and for our careers so being supportive of each other is paramount. The process of working together and having to compromise and listen to each other and understanding what is best for the exhibition, is very exciting and something that encourages the natural process of artistic collaboration. Being faced with challenges from the structure that a shop space offers and overcoming those challenges in a creative way. Utilising dead space and transforming it into a vibrant event space that actually generates itself as it goes along. With a few contacts and flexible, positive and open minded people on board anything seems possible!” Caroline Pedler hi5 member.
